Can I check food temperature with a normal digital thermometer?

Q: If so.. how? all I have is a reasonable digital thermometer
I need to check the temp of a liquidy mix similar to mushed up baby chow

Any advice or tips would be great

A: No! never and if you try and the thermometer breaks the mercury that comes out is Contaminate!
